Views on Security, Preparedness and Resilience in Today’s Arctic

Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the suspension of regional cooperation frameworks, and a new NATO-Russia border have reshaped the Arctic’s security dynamics – in addition to a rapidly changing climate acting as both a threat multiplier and an increasingly challenging operating environment. With the EU's updated Arctic policy responding to additional priorities including security, defence, connectivity and economic security, this becomes a key new dimension of its engagement in the region. Heightened attention along this new frontier, and across the wider Arctic, calls for fresh thinking on civil-military cooperation. This panel explores what that means for the region going forward, and how continued cooperation can be preserved amid a shifting geopolitical landscape.
