How Can Arctic Development Deliver Great Benefits to Arctic Communities?

Sustainable development in the Arctic is about more than resources; it is about people, communities and long-term prosperity. With the EU's updated Arctic strategy, sustainable development remains a key aspect of the EU's engagement in the region, shaping how growth from critical raw materials to green industry and infrastructure is pursued. This panel takes a practical approach: how economic diversification, connectivity and social development can be delivered while respecting the rights of local communities and Indigenous Peoples. What does a just transition look like when the returns on investment so often flow elsewhere, and how can commitments to local interest be given real influence over Arctic development?
