From Ambition to Action: Delivering Climate Goals in the Arctic
With the Arctic warming up to 3-4 times faster than the rest of the planet, nowhere else is the need to address climate change more urgent. While the EU’s updated Joint Communication on the Arctic has recently been updated, protecting the climate and environment remains a key pillar of the Union’s approach to the region. This panel will examine what is being done to monitor and protect Arctic ecosystems and the communities who depend on them, including safeguarding biodiversity and mitigating and adapting to the accelerating pace of environmental change. How can these objectives be translated into concrete, measurable action on the ground? And how should implementation balance global climate responsibility with the lived realities of a region already experiencing profound environmental change?
